Nursing
Cheerleading has played an important role in my life. It wasn't until I was put in a situation where a cheerleader fell and broke her arms. As I was watching professionals assist the student, it made me think of how I would really enjoy being able to help and fix problems for others. Another instance was when my grandmother was in hospice. I observed nurses providing poor patient care, and from that point on, I made it my desire to try and help those in need and provide the best patient care I could possibly give. When I started my search for colleges. I was looking for a university that offers an opportunity for me to cheer and become a nurse. That is one of the reasons this school peaked my interest.
Knowing I wanted to go into the medical field. I have prepared myself by taking many of the classes offered to me in high school. I was able to take three medical classes, such as printables of health science, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology. I am currently taking medical microbiology and pathophysiology. I am certified under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This year I will have the opportunity to receive certifications in EKG Technician, Patient Care Technician, Infection Control Certification,Blood Borne Pathogen Certification, Stop the Bleed Certification, and CPR Certification.I will also be visiting nursing homes and hospitals and learning about how things run in the healthcare environment.
I have had the opportunity to be a cheer and gymnastics coach for four years now. While being a coach, I got to learn how the body works and moves. I learned a significant amount about how to work well with children and others who come from diverse backgrounds. I have also had the opportunity to work at McDonald's for two years. While working at McDonald's and being a coach, I have learned a lot of life skills such as teamwork, communication skills, and time management.
The last four years I have gained so much knowledge. I know I can and will succeed in my future. I am on the right path and have the support I need to become successful.
