Hello! My name is Brooklyn, and I’m a junior at Fennimore High School. I’m also the cheer captain for our team and I also cheer at Shinepower Studio and Gym, located in Boscobel Wisconsin, where we focus on stunts, tumbling, and dancing, finishing our season with a full routine.
I only started cheer as a freshman, so there’s still a lot I want to improve on — but I’m willing to put in the hard work. While I have areas to grow, I make it a priority to be sharp with my motions, cheer loud and proud, keep a smile on my face, and give my best effort every time. I strive to keep the team happy and motivated during practices and games. Right now, I’m working on my toe touch and hoping to get my back walkover soon. Since I began, I’ve improved tremendously — this year I was even awarded “Most Improved.”
Cheer has helped me grow as both an athlete and a person. When I started, even a simple elevator (prep level) was difficult for me. Now I can do extensions and more advanced skills. I’ve also attended a cheer camp hosted by the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire cheer team, where I learned basket toss techniques, libs, inversions, and other stunts. It was such an amazing experience to learn from talented athletes and grow my skill set.
Beyond cheer, I had an incredible experience this summer at Sugar Creek’s LEAD program — a four-week leadership and personal growth program. I loved it so much that I returned for another four weeks! This experience boosted my confidence, leadership skills, and helped me grow as a person overall.
Cheer means so much to me. I’ve made amazing friends, both at my school and from other teams, and created so many lasting memories. I’m grateful for all the opportunities it has given me, and I hope to continue cheering in college!
