Personal Statement
I was born in Singapore and had the opportunity to travel extensively. These experiences provided a learning compass and contribute to my quiet confidence, a strength on and off the field.
My family moved to the United States the summer going into 4th grade and I wanted to get involved in a team sport that was community based. I picked field hockey from the Park District catalog, and I haven't stopped playing! I continue to train year-round with my local community programs, coach in our youth camps, and take advantage of as many camps, clincs, regional and national tournaments as my schedule and budget allow.
In the summer of 2017 I trained in The Netherlands with elite athletes from all over Europe, the US and the world. Competing with and against mixed boys and girls teams provided a fast paced, competitive setting and exposed me to different styles of play. The coaching was fantastic, and helped refine my technique, pushing me further as an athlete. This international playing experience brought me back to my multi-cultural roots…and I am still glowing from this awesome experience!
I have participated in many sports and activities growing up, and it's been a juggle at times managing multiple interests. But I wouldn't trade that exposure, learning, or fun! Field hockey seems to combine all the things I love, and provides a competitive setting where I can continue to grow as an athlete and a person.
I'm looking for a strong academic school along with a team that loves field hockey as much as I do. Team camaraderie and a positive support system are important to me, and will help me reach my full potential. I want to be an impact player, helping my team achieve our goals. I continue to develop my leadership skills on and off the field, and hope to serve as a mentor for others in my community.
I was incredibly honored to receive the 2017 IHSFHA Illinois Player of the Year award. This represents a first for my school, and reflects our great coaches as well as the strong program opportunities we offer in my local community. Our players are developing a stronger competitive mindset with great team synergy in an inclusive environment. And we love to play field hockey!
