Meera Patel '25 Recruiting Profile

Born and raised in New Zealand, I have been playing field hockey since I was 5 years old and have been selected to represent my region every year since I became eligible for U13s, most recently playing in the national U18s tournament. I am happiest when I have a stick in my hand and my goal is to continue to play and develop through college. 

I am a versatile player. In 2023, I played midfield for my varsity team, striker for my women's club team and a defender for my regional representative team. I have been a starter on my varsity team since 9th grade and was named MVP in 2021, 2022 and 2023 for my club team. In addition to playing hockey, I shadowed a master coach who develops younger players for 2 years and then used the skills I learned to coach an intermediate school team in 2022 and 2023. I also volunteered as an umpire for 2 seasons. Coaching and umpiring have allowed me to see the game from a different angle that have helped refine my own game on the turf as well as give me a better insight and respect for what our coaches do to get the best out of us game after game. I am committed to developing and growing as a hockey player and believe that I lead by example.

In addition to hockey, I am equally committed to my academic endeavors. I am a competitive IB student with a rigorous course load, a high GPA, a musician, a member of a competitive debate team and an active member of my school community and am involved in a wide range of activities including volunteering and community service. I am someone who likes to take advantage of the opportunities available to me and actively contribute to my community with my skills, commitment and dependability. These are qualities I would like to bring to a college. I look forward to being able to contribute to my college by providing a unique perspective from a New Zealand background.
