Personal Statement
My name is María José Morán. Everyone calls me Teté. I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I was born on January 5th 2000. I graduated from High School in Dec 2017 from St. Mark´s College, my present school. I play field hockey both in my club, San Albano, and in my school (at a very competitive level in both cases). I have been playing for about 13 years now (since 2007). In 2017, we were Fall Season Champions with a 14-0 record and Spring Season Champions with 14-0 record too. We also won the Grand Final 2017, closing an excellent year. I play in the First Team of my club and we have achieved two championships (2018 and 2019).
My main position is defender, usually in the center. I can also play as a mid fielder or as a forward. When there is a penalty corner (attacking) I can be either a stick stopper or a push out; and defending I usually cover the left post. Field hockey means a lot to me, I love it. I enjoy every single minute of it. What I love the most about this sport is that to win every person in the team has to be committed, if not you will not succeed. As a person and as a player, I am always willing to do my best and put all my effort in and off the field. I am very proud of the way in which I have been managing to succeed both, academically and in Field Hockey. I have always attended double shift at school, trained twice a week and play matches every Saturday.
At school, I am permanently in the Frame of Honor*. I have obtained the IGCSE Diploma (University of Cambridge) and I have passed the FCE exam (First Certificate in English - University of Cambridge) at grade A. Athletically, I am always a starter in both teams (club and school). I won the Hockey Award three four times (2017, 2015, 2014, and 2013) in my school. This is not an award based just on how you play but also on how you lead your team and on how much effort you make trying to improve every day. I was named Captain of the Varsity Team in 2016 and 2017! I was also vice-captain of my club team in 2012. I was chosen Best Friend in 2014 and in 2015 (in my club) and previously (2009) in my school. In addition, I was picked in 2017 Captain of my school House, Milton. I was selected by my school mates and by my professors, directors and board.
In 2014 I was selected by ADE - Asociación Deportiva Estudiantil (an association that involves the best bilingual schools in Buenos Aires) to go on tour to South Africa in 2015. Passed July we finally went on tour and won all of our matches. Also, I was selected Captain of my team and obtained the mvp award in one of the matches. In 2017, I was also selected to be part of the ADE Team. And I was selected by my club to represent it in the Juegos Bonaerenses (Province level competition).
Moreover, I have been attending to the best hockey camp in Argentina, Lombiproject (Summer 2013, Winter 2013, Summer 2014, Summer 2015). Lombiproject is a hockey camp managed by Pablo Lombi (one of the best former players in the country) and coached by different current and former hockey players of our national teams, such as Mariana Rossi, Carla Rebecchi, Jorge Lombi, Martina Cavallero, Gonzalo Peillat.
It is very important for me to keep playing hockey while I develop my career in college. I really believe I could succeed at both. I have decided to start my career in Argentina. I have signed myself up in UCA´s – Universidad Católica Argentina – Advertising Programme (while playing field hockey in Club San Albano). However, this does not mean I will not study abroad at all. In fact, this University has an excellent international programme which gives me the opportunity to study two semesters in another country (fall 2021 and 2022). By then I will also have more experience playing at the highest level of field hockey in the country. After 3 years of study, my grades are great: an equivalent to an A.
Hope I can keep in close contact with you. I will keep my profile up-dated and will add new footage as soon as posible.
Happy 2021 to everyone!
