My desire to continue playing at the collegiate level comes from the joy I get from playing this game. It has required a skill set that seems natural to me and I feel like I belong on the pitch.
I am comfortable in a leadership role as I have been a captain of my club team for 2 years and now as a rising junior I have been tagged to serve as captain of our high school team. I have also served as a group leader of our church's VBS program.
My parents are actively health conscious, continuing to stay active in their 50's. They encourage a balanced diet and my Dad has been a huge proponent of core strength. Their example has led me to continue strength and conditioning throughout the year. I decided to make field hockey my main sport focus in the beginning of my sophomore year and while my conditioning is not always sports specific, we talk about how certain concentrations can benefit my performance.
I have the pleasure of coaching 3rd & 4th graders in our local Rec field hockey program. Teaching young players new skills and the rules of the game are one of my passions. Seeing the next generation of players for our sport develop their skills is very rewarding.
I am also a member of the Forever Friends Organization at Glenelg High School. This a coalition of students that partner with learning challenged peers to help provide an equal and enjoyable high school experience. Inclusion activities include sports, drama, & social events. My father has described to me how disabled & developmentally challenged students were segregated when he was in school and I think that what we do now is better for all the students.
