Hi! I'm Mallory Berkeley, I have been playing field hockey since I was in 3rd grade. Ever since 4th grade I have been a goalie. In my first year as a youth player I remember watching the older girls playing games with goalies and always wanting to be the girl in the net. Years later I've stuck to it and I have learned to fall in love with the sport. Throughout my years of playing youth, at the high school, and club level I've always tried to be positive and motivational to my teammates no matter the situation of the game or practice. I tend to be the voice of control on the field with directions and praise. One of my favorite parts about playing field hockey is the bond created between your team, like a family, it's so special!
Starting on my high school's varsity team my 8th grade year was a huge learning experience and helped me grow both mentally and athletically. Especially with my first season playing being the season where Covid was happening, things were hectic. I was 14 playing against 17 and 18 year olds, and for the most part I held my own. I think being put on the spot like I was so early gave me an extra push to get better. In my 2021 season my team ended a 13 year playoff drought by making the tournament! In my 2022 season I ended with 310 saves and an 83% save percentage. For my 2023 season I was able to help lead my team back to playoffs as captain, and I was named a TVL All Star, a Boston Globe All Star, and a Metro West Daily News All Star HM. As my team gets older, and stronger we are striving to get better each season. I also play all year round with Premier Field Hockey Club in the winter and spring, with our team maturing each year.
Off the field I work extremely hard as well, maintaining a high GPA and keeping up with work in honors/AP classes. I stay in touch with the community around me and help as much as I can by being in NJHS, NHS, Best Buddies, student council, student leadership, and my schools literary journal. I am looking forward to working hard these next couple of years so I can play at the highest level possible! I am so excited to see what is next for me in my academic and athletic career!
