My name is Savaughna Slocum. I have been involved in athletics since I could walk. I started with basketball, soccer, and baseball; as the years passed, it was time to switch some things up. That's when I traded baseball for softball and soccer for cheer; throughout middle school, I stuck with cheer, basketball, and softball. That was until my 8th grade year, both my sisters played field hockey, and as I attended their games, I fell in love with the sport, so in 8th grade, I made the switch. It was hard being one of the oldest on the team yet knowing the least about the sport, but we were a team, a family, and each teammate helped me learn each aspect of the game. I played as a midfielder, and I can remember the first ever goal I made in a game. My coach told me, "If that ball enters the circle, you run to the post," and I did; the ball got passed to me, and I hit it in. All my teammates hugged me, jumping around, and that is when I realized that this was where I was meant to be.
Entering my Freshman year, the Varsity team was without a Goalie due to my older sister graduating. Never have put on pads; I approached the coach and said I'll do it. Wanting to do my very best and not let down the team, I put countless hours outside of practice in order to get a feel for the pads. Putting on Goalie Gear now feels like it molds to my body like I can do anything at that moment. I was made Captain in my Junior year for Field Hockey and in my Sophomore year for Basketball.
Growing up, I have always been hardworking and studious; all throughout Middle School, I received High Honors. In High School, all of my core classes have been Honors. I have taken a few running start classes, including Web Design and Spanish 3, and I have even taken courses through Lakes Region Community College and NHTI: Chemistry, Fire Prevention, and ASL. I am 1st in my class with a 3.98 out of 4.0 GPA. I am the President of the Class of 2025, a member of the Student Council, National Honors Society, Drama Club, Student Athletic Leadership Team (S.A.L.T), and the student representative for Choose Franklin.
