Personal Statement

My name is Bonnie Gillis and I am a junior at age 17 at Bishop Guertin high school in Nashua, New Hampshire. I currently live in Milford, New Hampshire with my mom, dad, and younger brother. I come from a middle class family in which my parents work hard to help me achieve my dreams. My dad works in a painter's Union in Boston Massachusetts and will often work overtime hours. My mother also works two jobs in sales and marketing. My parent's sacrifices help me to maintain focus on my goals and to strive for success. Hockey has surrounded me my whole life through my brother and father. When I first heard of and saw clips of a field hockey game I immediately was interested. My father and I talked constantly and I soon found myself at a clinic to prepare for my middle school tryouts a year early. I found it just the balance of natural but difficult work. I continued on, to play on my middle school team all three years and was a captain my last year. Through my six years of playing I have learned a lot about myself. I have found my deep passion and drive for my goals. Even more so how to work as an unit with a team and how the cooperation of the team is paramount in importance. Through my seven years of playing I have also fought my greatest obstacle, my height.  I have learned that my height only enhances the type of player I am, it does not define what I am limited to. I have also discovered that my positive mental attitude and my speed outweighs any possible negative idea of height. As for my academic goals my end goal is to have a career as an Orthopedic Surgeon. I work just as hard in the classroom as I do on the field. I have been enrolled in six honors classes and two AP classes during my three years of high school. I enjoy a challenge and do not take academics lightly .

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
