Personal Statement
I am an athlete. While I love playing all sports, field hockey has been my greatest passion since I was only eight years old. I played with Carle Place's Long Island Field Hockey Association team for four years- all undefeated. As a seventh grader, I earned MVP of the Middle School Team. I earned a position on Carle Place High School's Junior Varsity team as an eighth grader and was chosen as captain of the Junior Varsity Team. I was moved to the varsity roster for the remainder of the 2016 season. We finished first place in our Conference and won the Nassau County 2016 Class C and the Long Island Championships. As a Varsity starter this year, my team captured the 2017 Nassau County Class C title, Long and Regional Championships. We won the New York State semi-final game, but lost a well-fought battle in the finals 1-0.
My field hockey club training started with Strong Island Field Hockey as a sixth grader, then joined Strong Island's indoor league in 2014. After completing only one season of training with USA Field Hockey's U14 Futures Program, I qualified for a Region 4 spot at Nationals as a forward. Competing at Nationals has been one of the most amazing experiences and greatest privileges in my life so far. My Strong Island premier indoor teams qualified for NITs for the last two years. I also participated in the Futures program at the Region 4 Level 1 training at Columbia University. I competed U16 National Futures Championships and qualified for the Junior Olympics this year.
In addition, I earned a spot on the Varsity Lacrosse team as a ninth grader. As a Varsity starter this year, I play both offense and defense- or wherever my coach needs me to be. My team won the 2017 and 2018 Nassau County Class D Championships. I am very fortunate to be a part of a strong athletic program in Carle Place High School.
Athletics have helped mold me into the person I am today. Participating in sports has given me the self-confidence and determination to excel in academics. Being an athlete has enabled me to develop strong friendships with my teammates. Most of all, I have developed respect for my coaches as their constructive criticism only makes me a better player. Besides earning another spot at Nationals, my greatest aspiration is to play field hockey in college while pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice.
