June 2021 Highlig...Hi my name is Emma Leddy and I want to play field hockey at the college level. I have tried so many other sports before I came across field hockey. I knew from the minute I began playing that it was something I would really grow to love. When I started in 7th grade, I chose to be a defender partly because no one else wanted to. It ended up being my favorite position and I even made my other teammates want to switch to defense too. From that first day on the team to now, I have grown as a player and a person and continue to push myself to the best that I can be with each day that goes by. The people that you meet playing field hockey become family. The bonds that I have made with my teammates are ones I never hope to loose.
Some of my strengths as a player are being able to read the game and find an outlet to pass to my teammates on free hits or when I am carrying the ball up the field. One of the biggest things I practice are my drives and they have become powerful and useful when I drive the ball up the field or take a shot on goal. I also have a good sense of my positioning and can cover my position defensively and help out a teammate if they can't make it back. I continue to work on my skills each time I play and practice field hockey and strive to get better with each time.
Not only do I push myself on the field, but I also push myself off the field. I work very hard academically and my grades reflect my efforts. Academics are extremely important to me so finding the balance between them and sports can be tough at times but it is something I am always consciously making an effort for. Even if things get hard, academically or socially, I always know that field hockey is my outlet where I can let anything on my mind go and just have a good time. I hope to continue my field hockey career and make even more memories and friendships that will last forever.
