Maya Sanzel '27 Recruiting Profile

Hi coaches! My name is Maya and I am a class of 2027 field hockey player who wants to continue playing in college. I am very committed both academically and on the field. I am a dedicated and positive student and teammate who is coachable and always happy to come to practice. I am a leader on and off the field, as I am a member of the Student Government, but I am also a team player who is always looking for ways to improve and contribute to the team. I first found my passion for field hockey in 6th grade and have been playing ever since. I have experience in all 3 positions but specialize in defense, however I am also willing to play whichever position will benefit the team the most! I'm a well-rounded athlete, playing both field hockey and lacrosse since middle school, as well as adding on basketball in 8th and 9th grade. 

After playing modified field hockey and lacrosse in 7th grade, I was pulled up to play JV for both sports in 8th grade as a starting defender in field hockey. In 9th grade preseason, I was pulled up to varsity. I began the regular season as a starter on defense, but was moved to midfield and then forward due to a teammate's injury. In 10th grade, I played much of the season on left defense, but by the end was often shifted to play center forward (as well as left defense), remaining a starter despite moving positions. Throughout the years, I have continued to both fly on defensive corners and play near stroke on offensive corners. I would love to play in college so that I can continue to pursue my biggest passion.
