I love being an athlete. I enjoy almost every aspect of it and have a goal to continue playing field hockey at the collegiate level to maintain the balance that I already enjoy and am successful at as a high schooler. My parents have always kept me, and my three younger siblings involved in sports from an early age. Having moved around quite a bit due to my father’s military service has given me an opportunity to try new sports and meet great teammates and coaches wherever we have been. This resiliency is what I think has shaped me into someone that is not afraid of adapting and has allowed me to grow and push myself when faced with unfamiliar challenges and difficult people. I also enjoy playing lacrosse and have been involved in that sport since 5th grade. I have no difficulty balancing school season lacrosse along with year-round club and school field hockey while maintaining a high academic standard. I enjoy spending my free time volunteering at church, reading, and doing other activities with my friends and family. During the summertime I have a part-time job as a 1st-6th grade lacrosse referee.
Although I only began playing field hockey in 7th grade, it has become my passion, and I have dedicated myself to being the best player I can be on and off the field. My freshman year, I set a goal, remained focused, and worked hard. This goal was achieved as I was selected as a varsity player and started in a majority of those games, which is uncommon in my high school and division. My sophomore year I started in every single varsity game and received an honorable mention SCAC All League Award. I attribute this personal win to the sweat equity and to the mental tools that I have been picking up along my academic and athletic journey. This season, I was recently voted as the first ever Junior at my High School to be Varsity team Captain.
I put the highest value on my relationships with teammates and coaches, and competing against fellow athletes under pressure. These coveted items are what help me get through the tough work and help keep me focused on what is needed to achieve my set goals. Whether it’s pushing myself academically or at practice, I have always respected my teachers and coaches. I value their experience and know that they also strive to make decisions that are best for the team as a whole and the athletes.
I would be satisfied playing at any level of college field hockey as long as I meshed with my teammates and coaches, and that we were “in it to win it” as a team family. I appreciate you taking the time to look at my profile and read my personal statement, and I very much look forward to starting a conversation with you soon as I continually grow and work towards my collegiate goals.
