Family, school and field hockey have always been my priorities in life. I was in the fourth grade the first time I was handed a field hockey stick. Before that moment, I felt like I had tried every other sport under the sun before I was finally introduced to the one that would change my life. Ever since that time, I have never wanted to put my stick down. Even when I was young, I begged to go to extra practices, and I welcomed criticism because I knew it would only make me a better player. I never played for the love of a win either, I have always played solely based on my love for the sport. Win or lose, I always leave the field satisfied knowing that I gave my heart and soul, as I always play my hardest, not only in every game but also in every practice. I play not because I feel an obligation to, but because I know that this is what makes me happy and that’s the reason why I always have a positive attitude both on and off the field. I have always worked equally as hard in my academic life, I push myself to achieve top grades and enjoy challenging myself with difficult classes. My grades reflect the countless hours of work that I put into school. In the future, I want to study biology or biomedical engineering and then continue on to medical school to become a pediatric doctor. I want to work in a field where I can help people every day and along with field hockey, science has always been a passion of mine. Right now my priorities are family, school and field hockey, after I graduate they will become family, career and field hockey; I will never lose my passion for field hockey because my life wouldn’t have been the same if I had never played this amazing sport. I know that in college I will give all of myself to the team and play my hardest each and every day. I feel as though my hard work and passion in the sport constantly helps me to grow, as I am never afraid to look back on my games and question myself on what I can correct and then consciously try to insinuate the new improvements into my skills. When I graduate, it’s my dream to start a program in my community where young girls can be introduced to the sport much earlier than middle school. I know that I will forever be grateful for the program that I was brought up through, it was a major part of my childhood and I want to offer that opportunity to other girls. I also think that field hockey is still a very obscure sport in the United States and it needs to be spread. The youth need to be given an opportunity to play little league field hockey, just the same as they are for a sport like soccer and programs such as these for field hockey don’t exist. Field hockey is my passion and I want to always make it a part of my life as it has shaped me in all my years through high school, and I hope it will continue to be a huge part of my life in college and beyond.
