My name is Ruby Linares and I am a midfielder/forward from the class '26 looking to continue my athletic and academic career on the collegiate level. I began playing field hockey the summer before my freshman year of high school and quickly fell in love with the sport. My natural athleticism and knowledge of field positioning from years of club soccer accelerated my development as a core player on my team, earning me a starting spot on varsity. I quickly realized I had the potential and desire to play collegiately, so I began putting in consistent effort on and off the field. Once I have a goal, I will do anything and everything in my power to achieve it. For example, when I got to high school I made a joke that I would try to graduate with all A's. But then I started thinking, what if I don't underestimate myself, what if I hold myself accountable to achieve something I am passionate about? So here I am, three semesters in, all A's so far, headed towards my goal.
In terms of athletics, I am the type of player who will practice stick skills and lift wights in the garage after practice, I openly receive feedback from coaches and teammates and find ways to apply it to my game, and I will work on something a hundred times over until I am satisfied. I am looking for a school that will help me grow not only athletically but academically and morally. I see myself thriving in a place with a strong sense of community, a healthy balance of fun and academic rigor, a high moral standard for their students and staff, as well as a place that encourages students to grow in their own ways.
