Dear Potential Coach,
My name is Mya Lewis (but my coaches call me 'Ace') and I am a Class of 2026 junior goalkeeper at the Milton Hershey School. I am originally from Brooklyn, NY but I reside year-round at our residential school in Hershey, PA. Ever since I put on my first goalie kit, I've been dedicated to strengthening my game and finding new opportunities to be involved in this sport. I started playing field hockey during the Summer before my sophomore year and was immediately named the starter on our high school's varsity team. I began seeking additional GK training when I joined the club level last year. I'm currently on the U19 PA Revolution FHC team that is now based out of Spooky Nook Sports in Manheim, PA.
During my junior fall season at MHS, I recorded 130 saves and had a save ratio of .8227. At this point in my career, I would describe my playing style as aggressive, physical, and mobile. Each time I step on the field I take on the role of being a disrupter for the opposing team's attack with the goal of being a player that they dread to see when they step into our circle. As a teammate, I aim to be a positive influence and mentor for younger student-athletes. Based on personal experience, I believe it is crucial to support newer faces to the game to bolster resilience and determination in learning the sport and competing with confidence on game day.
Prior to playing field hockey year-round, I played basketball throughout middle school and during my freshman and sophomore years of high school. I recently had to make the decision to forego the remainder of my basketball career to focus on opportunities with field hockey. This decision has so far allowed me the opportunity to attend clinics and participate at a higher level in club that I would not be able to do otherwise.
I'm interested in attending a four-year program to study Business and Real Estate Management with aspirations to own and operate my own Real Estate Business in the future. When researching programs that are right for me, I highly value the support and resources provided by athletic programs to promote student success in the classroom as well as on the field. When it comes to program and team-specific culture, I am interested in learning more about a team's unity, values, and goals. I look forward to attending a program that values high academic achievement and fosters support and opportunity for player development.
I am truly excited to begin this process with your program. I look forward to answering any questions you may have in our future conversations, and I look forward to asking you mine.
