Hi Coaches, my name is Alejandra Gonzalez. Im currently finishing my sophomore year, at Cranston High School East. I fell in love and developed a passion to this sport, the first time I ever picked up a stick. The summer going into my freshman year. I remember being in 8th grade, as I was finishing up middle school they called for a meeting if you were interested in playing either field hockey, or ice hockey in high school. I originally had went for ice hockey, as I was interested in the sport. After the meeting I went up to the coach, now my head coach for field hockey. And I told him I was interested in ice hockey, on giving It a try as I’ve never once played. He proceeds to look at, and tell me “You are going to join my field hockey team kiddo, I see the potential in you. Give it a try.” I then didn’t end up signing up for ice hockey, but instead field hockey. And ever since my life has changed for the better.
As a freshman that had no clue what they were doing, I can for sure say that the improvement I’ve had and will continue to have is there. As a freshman, I was a swing player for varsity, as I made the junior varsity team. Off season I made sure to train as hard as I could, to show my coaches the improvement coming into my sophomore season. I ended up doing a summer league, before my sophomore season, to train myself better for the upcoming high school season. My coach would tell me he saw the improvement in me. This sophomore season, not only did I make the varsity team but I am now a starter. I am a defensive player, as I enjoy the thrive to being able to hustle and defend the opposing team. Throughout the season I was recognized and acknowledged for my skills, and leadership. As at the end of this season, I was given the opportunity to be a captain as an upcoming junior. I am beyond grateful and excited I’ve been given that opportunity. I decided to play club, at allegiance and just finished my winter 2025 clinic. I can say, my journey as of now ever since joining field hockey has shaped in a better, well rounded student-athlete. Yes, there are ups and downs, but I am learning to overcome any struggles that come through. As they only shape me to be a better person, and athlete.
On the academic side, I always tend to try my best and as hard as I can. As my academic success matters a lot to me. I have received honor roll, every quarter and semester for the past years. I was awarded and apart of National Junior Honor Society. I strive to push myself to even more challenging classes, as I take honors classes. Junior year I will be taking AP classes.
I believe I am a well rounded person, student and athlete as I also do other sports, participate in other activities while trying to pursue field hockey and balancing it all out with school.
Playing field hockey at the collegiate level is my hope and goal. For a team, that strives for success, and will push me to my hardest. A team that feels like family.
