I'm a junior at Episcopal High School in Texas. I've played field hockey since 6th grade, but I only started playing goalie last summer. Learning to be a goalie is completely different from being a field player and even though I had a lot to learn, I love being in goal. You get to see everything and help your team.
In January, a few weeks before I was supposed to attend my first tournament as goalie, I ended up in the ICU with myocarditis, which is a heart issue. My doctor said I wasn't allowed to play field hockey or even run for 3 months. This was frustrating because I had to miss the tournament and couldn't work out with my team for the whole spring.I missed other tournaments and recruiting events. Luckily, I am OK now and my doctors said I was cleared to play in late April. Going through this has made me appreciate field hockey even more, and I've had to work very hard to keep up and get back in shape. It taught me to be tough and keep going. I think this makes me different from most other recruits because I've had to work hard in ways most people don't.
Generally, I am kind and supportive. I don't lose my temper and I am forgiving. I love to go above and beyond to try to get better. I am an all sport athlete and will listen to any feedback I am given. I don't hold grudges and will work with anyone. During both sports and school I love to help people. If they don't understand the lesson, want to know how to get better, need feedback, or need help with a assignment or even help carry or grab something for them I like to help them where I can. I think that will make me a valuable teammate and hopefully a good friend.
