I, Marcus Rogers Jr., am a Senior at Hueytown High School in Hueytown, Alabama. I currently have a 3.25 GPA and have successfully completed dual enrollment courses through Lawson State Community College. I have earned membership in the National Society of High School Scholars, Bronze Level ACT Work Keys Certification, Lifeguard Certification, and I am on track to graduate with an Academy of Communications, Arts, and Business Credential.
My collegiate goals and aspirations are to earn a full football scholarship for college, earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications & Recording Technologies, and qualify for the NFL draft. It is my goal to earn a full scholarship to college because my passion for football is not only important to me but my family also. My mother was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and although she constantly pushes me to pursue my goals, I know that financially she needs the help and I don’t want my education to be a burden on her. I plan to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications & Recording Technologies so that I can establish a career in the movie and entertainment productions. I would also like to qualify for the NFL draft and make it to the NFL, to experience the game of football at the ultimate level.
I am a great candidate for your team because I am coachable, versatile, and a team player. I am coachable, in that, I believe that we are gifted and talented in certain areas, but what makes a player great is his ability to be coached on how to use those gifts and talents effectively. I am a versatile athlete and team player. Throughout my athletic career, I have played various positions such as Special Teams, Guard, Outside Line Backer, and Offensive Tackle. I have successfully executed multiple plays that resulted in multiple tackles for quarterback protection and several touch downs. Last year, my teammates and I won the 6A Region 4 Championship and we have earned it again this year. We have earned our position in the Quarter Finals of the 2019 State Championship and hope to win the title of state champs. My leadership skills are improving on and off the field.
What separates me from other candidates? I am humble, think of other people before myself, and I perform community service. Being the oldest of five children, growing up in separate households, my parents have taught me to persevere in spite of life circumstances. My family believes community service is important. We serve the community through our church, Hands On Birmingham, and my mother’s organizations. Recently, I served as a volunteer at the Annual MLK Breakfast in Birmingham. As an officer for the Birmingham Kappa League Leadership program, under the leadership of Mr. Anthony Hayes and the Birmingham Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., I have learned to stand strong and persevere in the face of adversity. I have also learned to give back to the community through service.
Athletically, I am different from my peers because most of them played little league football, however, I did not. I played soccer for 3 years to work on speed and hand & eye coordination. I began my football training in the 7th grade and discovered my passion for the game. Each year I have grown faster and stronger. It is my goal to continue to grow and do so on the collegiate level.
