My name is Jarett Tyler Manber (JT) and my greatest desire is to attend college and continue to play football.
I am currently a Senior at Arnold O. Beckman High School in Irvine, CA. I transferred to this school in 2013 after spending my freshman and sophomore year at Corona Centennial High School in Corona, CA.
During my youth football years I played a number of positions to include guard and linebacker. When I began high school I decided to try out for the quarterback position because I wanted to be a leader and challenge myself both physically and mentally.
I became the starting quarterback for Centennial my freshman year. Being introduced to this position at a school with a strong program I progressed rapidly and excelled in a read option offense. During this season we won the majority of our games and I learned a lot and matured as a player.
During my sophomore year I spent the majority of the year learning the varsity plays and maturing as a quarterback while seeing most of my active play time on the scout team. The top three varsity quarterbacks were all juniors and the coach had the number two and three play the junior varsity games. Even though my game play was limited, my growth as a quarterback continued based upon the way the program is structured at Centennial. From learning how to break down film, to reading defensive screens to actively implementing these skills during scout sessions, I grew as a player. I also learned to be patient, seize opportunities to learn from the more experienced players and coaches and to overcome self-doubt and adversity, becoming a mentally strong and more mature man.
My family moved early in my junior year and I was transferred to Arnold O. Beckman High School in Irvine, CA. Because I had been listed on the active varsity roster for the pre-season games at Centennial, CIF would not allow me to play on the varsity squad. I was however allowed to play junior varsity and I became the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. During this time I had to adjust to a new scheme of play, moving from a fast paced read option to pro-style. I quickly assimilated and was able to help the team win some key games against their league opponents.
I lead the varsity team as the starting quarterback during the 2014-15 season as a senior. I have been worked very hard during the off season with our coaches and on my own with a few personal trainers. I learned and grew as a player during the season.
Off the field I continue to focus on my studies which include a mix of honors and college preparation courses. I have maintained a high GPA in a very rigorous academic setting at both schools. I have been on the honor roll every semester of high school. I work 6-8 hours a week as a youth umpire. I am also involved with the Boy Scouts of America where I currently hold the rank of Eagle Scout. Additionally, since I was a sophomore I have been conducting a recycling program to earn money that I donate to water.org. To date I have donated over $300.00 to this cause.
I am a man of character, a student, leader, a coachable, intelligent athlete with an exceptional work ethic. I believe that I am a very talented quarterback, capable of leading a program. I would like nothing more than to have the opportunity to continue to play football while attending college.
