Derek Van Leeuwen '14 Recruiting Profile

My name is Derek van Leeuwen, I am a Senior from Ontario Christian High School in California. I am 6-3 and 180lbs. I am a versatile player I can play Wide Receiver, Free Safety, and Quarterback.

I come from a dairy family, so hard work has been taught to me since I was very young. I am dedicated to football and the hard work that comes with it. I feel that colleges will love my work ethic because I always want to get better no matter what it is, whether it’s in the weight room or out on the field I push myself every rep and every play.

My goal for college football is to be a major contributor to a winning team. I want to go somewhere where my skills will be challenged. I have wanted to play college football for as long as I can remember. I have played football my entire life. The last 4 years I have been playing football for Ontario Christian. I started both ways as the Quarter Back and Free Safety on the Freshman team. My Sophomore year I played on Varsity and got limited playing time but I got to learn the ropes. Last year my Junior year I started both ways at Wide Receiver and Free Safety. My team was undefeated until we went to the CIF finals where we unfortunately lost. I was fortunate enough that I was placed on the First Team All CIF Team. My stats for this season on Offense, I have 59 catches for 862 yards and 7 touchdowns.  On Defense I have 26 solo tackles, 28 assists and 4 interceptions.  On Punt Return I have 15 returns for 162 yards.  I also am a three sport Varsity athlete. I was on our Varsity Soccer team and also on our Varsity Men’s Volleyball team as a Freshman. I have received All League honors in both of those sports as well. My true passion though is football. I plan to play football as long as I can.

Lastly, but surely not least, I am a strong Christian. I have been going to church my entire life. This does not mean I only want to go to a Christian college, but it does show some of my character.  I am a very good kid that doesn’t get into trouble because of my Christian values.
