When I entered my freshman year of high school I had no intentions of being involved in football or any other sports for that matter. I played one year of youth football, but because of my size I was a younger kid that got minimum playing time on an older team. In addition to football, I also play soccer and baseball. By the time I attended freshman orientation, my dad had talked me into giving football another try. Participating in football was one of the greatest decisions I made. Between my freshman year and sophomore year I earned a lot of playing time and had a lot of fun as well. However, my junior year was when I realized that I wanted to use my athletic abilities to fulfill my academic goals while still doing what I love, playing football and contributing to a greater cause.
In my junior year, my team and I made it all the way to the sectional championship only to fall short by 14 points. The overwhelming feelings after the game were ones I never wished to feel again. As an individual, I told myself that I am going to make myself the best I can be to help my team be great. Whether it is extra time on the field, more reps in the gym, or more time spent watching film, I am willing to do it.
My motivation to be the best I can be does not just apply to athletics, but academics as well. Throughout high school I have always pushed myself to take the most rigorous courses possible. To me taking Advanced Placement and Honors level courses are very similar to how I view sports. The countless hours spent in the classroom or doing homework do not compare to the rewarding feeling of success at the end of the semester.
All in all, my aspirations to not only be the best I can be as an individual, but also contribute on a larger scale are what motivate me to attend college while also playing football.
