Winning the starting Varsity quarterback position my sophomore season was definitely a huge accomplishment for me. I grew the most as a student athlete after our toughest district game - we went into double overtime against a team that had not been scored against in 5 games - we lost by a field goal, but I was proud of how hard our team fought and the competitiveness with which we played; it also allowed me to re-evaluate our strategies and plays and adjust my game.. This led to the highlight of the season for me personally - our next game - which was explosive for me. I threw for 227 yards, had 3 passing touchdowns, and rushed for 1 as well. My coach trusted me to read the defense and allowed me to call audibles which I feel, along with my mental ability to evaluate the game, are some of my strengths. I am proud to have led my team to the first winning season in 7 years, won back the County trophy, and also to have broken the sophomore season passing record of a former JBHS quarterback. Our football team is not large in numbers, but I feel that has contributed to the strong bond we’ve created. I was able to gain the respect and trust of the upperclassmen and it means a great deal to me to be part of a team that is in it for the team, not just the athlete individually.
I cannot remember a time when I did not want to play football. If I am not playing it, I’m talking about it, which is why I want to major in broadcast journalism. After my football career, I plan to become a sports analyst. My academic goals include maintaining my high GPA, continuing to be involved in my class activities, volunteering, and NHS. I am looking for a program that will challenge me academically and athletically, and includes teammates who support each other. I believe that I not only have the talent to compete at the next level, but also the character, dedication, and work ethic to make an impact on your college program. I am looking forward to continuing to improve my skills in my junior season, be a leader on my team, and hopefully in the near future, a leader on yours!
