Hi Coach, my name is Xavier "Malcolm" Sams. I’m a 3-year lettermen middle-linebacker at Seffner Christian Academy in Seffner, FL. I became interested in football around the 7th grade while playing with classmates during recess. The obsessive adrenaline rush of the sport encouraged me to pursue it further. Through football I’ve discovered that every person has a small part in themselves that can drive them to conquer anything. That mindset led to me earning a starting position at MLB on varsity my freshman year.
Sophomore year I was able to adapt to change, switching schools and adjusting from a 3-3 stack to a 4-3 defense and starting at MLB & DT during that season. I developed a calm mentality in a high-pressure situation, winning the regional championship the next two years in a row and playing in the State semi-finals both years.
Through my Junior year playing MLB, I have displayed the required unique leadership qualities and skills to take on the responsibility to maneuver the entire defense depending on how the offense is set up. My pride in my work goes above and beyond after practice. Working additional drills, watching practice film and having board discussions with coaches. Extending that work ethic in the offseason to the weight room, film study and training with VAST Sports Performance in the offseason.
My academic goals for high school are to finish my last two years of high school with straight A’s. Maintaining a high academic standard while balancing theatre, chorus, football and track & field has required dedication, hard work and time management. Continuing those habits will bring academic success furthering my education in college.
In all, I feel like I can make a good impact on campus as a student and player. I have the leadership experience to keep myself and my peers focused. Additionally, I can adapt to my environment, making sure that I am on the same page with everyone on the team and in the community to contribute and achieve the goals set.
