Personal Statement
~~Hi, my name is Juanyea Tarver, I started playing football at the age of five. I have always had the passion and the work ethic to play the game that I love. I’ve always dreamed of playing at the collegiate level since I first touched a football. I’m a hard worker on and off the field. Today I have a better understanding of what it takes to succeed in life, it takes hard work. I’m focused, determined and committed to making sure that I keep my studies as a priority to ensure that I keep my grades up and remain consistent in everything that I do. Besides playing football, baseball was another sport that I exceled in. Although I’ve had the opportunity to play other sports I have always kept football close to my heart.
I started playing football for Acworth Parks and Recs at the age of 5. There I was a cornerback for four years, a nose guard for two years and a linebacker for one year. The team made it to the super bowl five consecutive times, winning three of them. I received a super bowl award for each super bowl win. At the age of 13 I decided to play middle school football. I started at running back and middle linebacker in the 7th grade, by the 8th grade it was running back and outside linebacker.
My first year in high school I decided to just stay on the defensive side of the ball and I gave up running back. Playing outside linebacker that year I caught the eye of the varsity coaches who moved me up after my freshman season was over. When they moved me up to varsity, I got the opportunity to be on the scout team. That year we made it to the third round of the playoffs.
I got my first varsity opportunity on punt team against MLK in the second round of the playoffs. The summer after my freshman season I buckled down and worked hard all off season with my team and my trainer. My trainer, Frank Adams, has played at the highest level of the game. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and knows what it takes to get to that next level. I came back my sophomore year bigger, stronger, and faster and ended up starting at safety for the varsity.
I haven’t always been the biggest or strongest kid on the field but I am a very smart football player. My intelligence for the game has led me to make a lot of plays. I am very explosive to the ball when I see the quarterback commit to the receiver, I go and attack the receiver. I was 2nd as a sophomore leading the team in tackles through the first 5 games.
