Personal Statement

  1.

Hello my name is Jonathan Kainoa Lasconia. I am a proud Spanish, Indian, Mexican, Hawaiian, Italian, and Filipino. I’m 15 years years old soon to turn 16 April 30, 1996. I want to put the boring stuff aside, though, and let me tell you who I am. “Kainoa” means calm water or restricted sea. I would say this represents me because I am a calm and relaxed human being.

Also I would say that I am a humble student-athlete. I hardly brag about how good I am at things. But if it is something I am proud about for myself accomplishing in my life I will brag about it because I proud and I do not care about what others think. As long as I accomplished it I will be the only one benefiting from it no body else. You can tell I put school first because I considered myself a “Student”-Athlete. My whole life playing sports no one has ever seen me or I made myself put sports before my academics. The main word is humble which can relate to my name because being humble shows a personality of somebody which is one way that can represent me. If I were to describe myself in three words those three would be compassionate, intelligent, and strong-willed. I would consider myself compassionate because I put my heart out there for the things that I love and the things that I do. I never give up on someone who is in need of help. Intelligent is another word that would represent me because I get good grades and also make the right decision when wrong situations arise. Strong-willed is the best representation of me because I will never give up on anything I start. My most outstanding characteristics that I would let the coach of my future to know is a hard worker also is someone to never stop working hard. I'm the type of person to never quit on my team. I can give my team my skills of critcal thinking and knowing what is going to happen before the plays happen. I make sure that I look at the formation first before anything happens. Also my skills are reading the lines really good such as seeing the o-line pull and the way they block. I have all the time in the world because now I learned how to manage time between school and sports.

I realize that there were some events that help changed me to help create the person who I am today. I remember the first time I played football and how the impact of it has changed me over time. Football is not just a sport for me; it is a life lesson that teaches amazing, heart-touching lessons. In football I learned how to fight through adversity, and now I know how to persevere. I feel in love with football because it helped me become a leader and to show my love to my brothers through my fight on the field! I believe that every body faces adversity at some point. With me learning that through football helped me to overcome a bunch of adversity because it helped me realize that there may not be a tomorrow and you have to cherish what is happening today. The adversity that became easy to handle was time management, and controlling things outside of school and to make sure it does not carry on into school.  A remembrance that I was given from the experience that my brothers and football has taught me throughout the process.

One person who really inspires me and really stands out to me is Joe Paterno. Many people do not understand exactly everything that he did for the Pennsylvania State University. I amazed by the longevity that he had and everything that he put out there for the university. People looked at him as a mentor, father, and a wise man. He was the reason that I wanted to play college football because of everything that he has accomplished in his time and also how much he really loved that university. Seeing him being fired and dying recently is very tragic because I look at him as a great man because name one coach who devoted himself to one thing and never giving up, and Joe Paterno's name will come up. He has never put himself in front of other but he put the team, the team, the team first. I believe his name will be in many hearts and take on the lessons he had taught people. Joe Paterno and me are similar because Joe’s life was always steady and my name Kainoa means a great power of force that is to steady and calm. Mine’s and his life had been so calm, steady, and very productive.

Talking about Joe Paterno makes me want so much in life because he did what he loved in life. I want to do what I love for the rest of my life. I know I want to have a successful life when I can learn so much more and seize many opportunities and control those. I really want to see myself as a successful business manager, CEO,  Accountant because I know the today's economy has to do a lot about buisness. To get into that type of major or job it takes toll of your whole life because it can teach you many different things and you understand people and how they act. Being open to may different perfession is like the ocean it is open to all but by looking deep down and explore the ocean you can see the good and the bad of it.

Besides doing work at school I love to play football and to train. My whole life has been surrounded by football which is why everything I mostly do has a relation to it. But at times I have fun with my friends and family. We would either go camping or fishing or just to hang out which is why we are friends and family because we create our memories as our life goes on and we don’t even know it. I pay attention to things a lot now every special moment I have to cherish those moments because there may never be another moment like this again which is why I learned from people.

  1. My strengths that I will give the college is my skills in mathematics. I received many rewards for Mathematics and rewards for pride. Also I’ve played football for football and been playing for 8 years of my life. Just this is year I was Captain/Leader of my team which the leadership of us 5 captains that we had set examples for our team to make us successful which helped us win the Championship this year. With the tradition the high school I played for has history behind it. Waianae High School is known for the championships that were won years ago. As you compare the years from then to know there is a huge gap of championships that were won hasn’t seen Waianae soil for a while until know. My dad has told me many stories that they were the first to win the first prep bowl which is a huge expectations for me. Which became a huge impact on me to become a better person and leader. Besides the fact of my dad telling me this, my family responsibilities is to take care of elders such as grandma’s and grandpa’s who cared for you for a while. This summer I’m signing up for a Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology intersession and a Summer study Tour in Japan.
