Single motherhood, unfortunately, is not uncommon in today's society, particularly amongst the African American race. However, my single-parent household is uncommon; it only represents 4% of single-parent homes. My sister and I are raised by an African American father. My father defied the odds of being raised by a single mother in the inner city of Chicago, Illinois and became a United States Navy Command Master Chief, a corporate executive, obtain two master's degrees, and is a great father.
You might be thinking, what does the above have to do with my Hudl film and aspiration to play football at the college level? I have learned by a living example that no task is impossible for me to accomplish. I have learned that despite unfair odds, sustained hard work and dedication overcomes all obstacles. I have learned that my best opportunity for success is through higher education.
I have demonstrated the above lessens through continuous challenge in AP level classes, humanitarian service with Special Olympics and Unified Physical Education, defensive line captain on my high school football team and honoring my family by demonstrating strong character and humility in my everyday life.
I would be a dedicated asset to your football team and student body.
Respectfully, Bryce Anthony Dorsey
