Let me introduce myself. My name is Ethan Wright, High School student athlete at Goddard High School in Goddard, Ks. I hope your view of my profile is helpful in your decision to consider me a viable candidate for your university. I have chosen to highlight several key factors which I hope you will find helpful in your search for the right student athlete for your team.
My goals for my college career:
• Acceptance: I plan to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher upon high school graduation in May 2017. Academic achievement is the most important aspect of seeking higher education, and I hope to utilize all resources, including scholarships to obtain my goals.
• Athletics: Along with the opportunities I seek academically, my decision on which university to attend will be influenced by which schools recognize my potential as an athlete. I enjoy being a part of a team, and thrive in an environment that allows me to showcase how hard work and determination can pay off.
• Involvement: My plans for higher education also include social responsibility by being involved in community and philanthropic organizations. Since my area of interest for study is Sociology, any additional involvement while attending a university will be beneficial to my success upon graduation.
• Networking: As I consider potential colleges, I plan to explore the possibilities of networking and post graduate career advancement and job placement opportunities.
• Knowledge: Ultimately, my goal for my collegiate career is to gain the knowledge to graduate with success and use my education to function as a valuable asset to our society.
Why you should accept my candidacy as a student athlete:
• Ability: As with every student athlete, I have been blessed with health and strength, enabling me to participate in athletics. Ability comes from a combination of several factors, including potential and capability. I do have the potential to improve and be a great student and athlete, and I am capable of pushing myself to achieve beyond expectations.
• Foundation: Another key to my depth is the guidance I have received over the years. My family support has provided me with opportunities and introduced me to some amazing experiences. At an early age, I became a part of an incredible team, with coaches that taught well beyond the basics in a fun environment. This established my love of football, adding to my desire to play the game as long as I am able.
• Determination: My desire to better myself, achieve goals and willingness to learn how to improve drives me on and off the field. As a student athlete, I am resolved to attain success, accepting challenges from myself, coaches, teachers or administrators.
• Intelligence: def. The ability to apply knowledge and skills. Many people possess “gifts” or talent, instinct, and skills. However, without intelligence, they may never reach their potential. This is why I have learned not to rely on physical ability only, or to be guided by my feelings, rather, I use my ability to rationalize and assess a situation so that I may adapt when necessary. My intelligence on and off the field should be considered an asset to your organization.
Character traits that make me stand out in a crowd:
• Integrity: As a young man with two younger half-sisters and four younger step siblings, I find it necessary to be an example for them, leading them to make good decisions in their lives. In 2006, at only 8 years of age, I pledged to my parents “I will never drink, smoke or do drugs, because athletes don’t do those things”. I am pleased to say I have upheld that statement, and at age 12 took it even further with a decision to quit drinking soda due to the adverse effects of caffeine and carbonation. I read that it would slow me down as an athlete. This is only one example that highlights my dedication to athletics and level of self-discipline. I have always chosen to be a leader, creating a positive influence for my peers and those younger than me.
• Flexibility: As a child, my parents divorced when I was only 3 years old. Though it was not my choice, I quickly learned the importance of being flexible with schedules, and to remain organized living between two homes. I feel this was a benefit to me on the football field as well. I have learned to play many different positions on both offense and defense with success and am always willing to give my all in any situation put in front of me.
• Balance: Through the years, I have been involved in athletic teams, social and leadership organizations. I enjoy improving my environment, and using my leadership skills to influence others to work toward a common goal. However, academics continue to be the main focus, and in the event I find myself overwhelmed, I am able to realize my priorities and focus my attention where it is most needed.
Athletic Achievements: Selected to FBU All-Kansas team in 7th grade, 2nd Team All-League DE 2015-16 Season
Academic Achievements: Honor Roll student, Leadership Counsil, and a High School Ambassador.
