My name is Thomas Warren, and I would be honored to be chosen as a member of the National Honor Society. In reflecting on the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service and character, I feel I would make a meaningful contribution.
I identify strongly with the leadership pillar. My experience both in and out of school have prepared me for leadership roles exceptionally well. One role I am looking forward to is being a senior on the Westwood high school football team. I plan to use my leadership experience to guide the lower classmen to success. My desire to lead and help others succeed started with coaching my younger brother’s basketball team. As head coach, I led the team to the championship two years in a row while making sure to incorporate the aspects of fun and sportsmanship. My goal was to make sure the players went home satisfied with the outcome, win or lose. In addition to coaching, I have experience in being a camp counselor for the Westwood Recreation summer sports camps. This job provided me with valuable life skills of organization, responsibility and work ethic. I plan to use these skills and experience to lead the way for the underclassmen and be a positive role model. Being a leader on and off the sports field is not about who is the best, rather it is the person who is willing to make sacrifices for the greater good of your team and community. I look forward to being the type of leader who will lift my teammates and the Westwood high school community up to achieve great things together.
