My name is Daryl Chatman. I am in the foster care system and have been in the system for about 6 years. I got put into the system because while I was growing up it was hard for my mom to take care of five kids and also because of abusive actions in the home. I got moved from place to place until one year my baseball coach took me in for a year. After that year I moved to Rush Henrietta where I started playing football/basketball for the first time in my life. I didn't start playing football until I was in 7th grade. I never played pop Warner so I was new to the game. It was a little hard getting into the rythm of it. But my 8th grade year I was pretty good at the sport. My ninth grade year I skipped jv and went straight to varsity. Now that was a huge jump for me, going from modified to varsity. I started 3 games as a freshman at LT until I suffered a concussion. My sophomore year I started 4 games at DE and got benched. After my sophomore year and that summer going into my junior year I just worked out more and trained more harder on my game. Training hard and working out helped me on my game for my junior season. I played DE and TE but I mainly played DE because I love defense. Our team went 6-4 and lost in the section five championship game by three. We had a good season going 4-3 and being called the "underdogs" going into the playoffs. Other teams, family, friends, and social media doubted us. We went on to beat two undefeated teams and one of those teams were #3 in the state. We ended up falling in the championship game by 3 but it was good run. Going 4-3 being "underdogs" to making it to the championship game, that's a pretty good season to me. I felt like I had a good season with 80+ tackles, 8 sacks, two forced fumbles, and 9.5 tackles behind the line. With also being nominated to AGR second team and winning Defensive player of the year for my team. I just want to thank god for giving me this opportunity and guiding me in the right direction to make me a better person and player.
