My name is Matthew McCoy and I am currently a Junior at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. My freshman year in High School I was a three sport athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball for the Junior Varisty programs. Over the summer going into my Sophomore year my goal was to become a starting cornerback on the Varsity Football team. I worked very hard to pursue this goal by working very hard on increasing my strength, speed, agility, balance, and mental awareness. Being a 6 foot 150 pound sophomore I was given the opportunity to play at the Varsity football level. I took advantage of this opportunity given to me and worked myself to a starting position as a cornerback. At the conclusion of my sophomore season I was given the honor of receiving All-Conference 2nd team all-star as cornerback. I concluded the season with six interceptions and no touchdowns allowed. I was also the 2nd string quarterback on the Varsity Football team and finished the season with 3 touchdowns and an average of 18.6 yards rushing yards per play. My sophomore year during the Winter season I played on the Junior Varsity basketball team at V.V.S and as Co-Captain on the team I lead in steals and was second on the team with rebounds. During the Spring I joined the Varsity Track And Field team hoping to become faster and quicker for my junior football season. In doing so I was able to come in second at sectionals in the 400 meter and was also able to move on to State Qualifiers where I came in fourth place. At the conclusion of the Varsity Track and Field season I was awarded First Team selection to the 2013 New York State Track and Field Team. As my Junior year in High School was approaching I worked very hard in the summer to become a better football player. I went to many speed camps, passing camps, and football camps. As a Junior I took the role of being the starting quarterback, a captain, and maintained my starting position as a cornerback. As starting cornerback I finished the season with two Interceptions , no touchdowns allowed and the honor of receiving All-Conference First Team All-Star. As starting quarterback I concluded the season with 11 passing touchdowns, 1,000 passing yards, 300 rushing yards, and 3 touchdowns. For my next upcoming seaon, as a senior at VVS High School, I plan to work as hard as I can to conclude my high school career successfully. If I continue down the path I'm on I know playing college football will be in my future. Although, my passion for football does not stop there. As an adult I look forward to pursuing a career in coaching. I want to share my passion and teach others the great game of football. I am willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish these goals and I know it is possible through my drive and dedication. I am excited to start this journey into my senior season, college football, and coaching.
