Hello. I would like to thank you for taking time to look at my scouting report. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Paul Steven Dyroff. My family originally came from Long Island but I am the only one of four children born up here. I am a 5' 9", 175 lb. 17 year old Cornerback and Wide Receiver for the Webster Schroeder Warriors of Webster, NY (near the city of Rochester). My big brother, Mark, played Guard and Defensive Tackle during the "Golden Era" of Coach Bianchi when Webster won five Section 5 Championships (1999-2003) and brought home 3 State Championship trophies. My biggest memory of this time was meeting my brother after practices while my Mom waited in the car and I would toss a football up in the air and catch it over and over. The team nicknamed me "Little Dyroff" and later instigated by my brother and my cousin Mike (who also played) was renamed "The Boy". Though I was six when I started to like the game, it wasn't until those times watching my brother's team that I truly began to love the game. Ever since then, it has been my dream to play football at the highest possible level. * Last year, we won the Section 5 Championship for the first time in six years. This past year, despite having a smaller and less experienced team, we almost repeated but were beaten on a controversial fake field goal in the last 4.1 seconds. At Last years season ending banquet, I was honored with the Scholar Athlete Award, one of only a few on our team. In my 8 years of playing football I thought it was the greatest accomplishment in my career since I started my early years in school with a slight learning disability. However, this past year I won the "Ultimate Warrior" Award. This goes to the player on the team who is most committed to the team and the hardest worker. Though I hated losing the way we did, my team overachieved, outworked more talented teams, and exceeded all sorts of expectations. As captain of the team, it is trully an honor to be part of such a team. * I believe I have several qualities that I can offer a team. The primary quality I possess is an outstanding work ethic. I come from a long line of hard working, disciplined, blue-collar working men who had been in the military. Both my grandfathers fought in WWII; one in the Pacific in the Marines and the other in Europe in the Army. My Father served in the Army at the tail end of the Vietnam War. My father has been working in some form of physical labor since he was 11. Now 55, he is still amazingly strong despite arthritis. I have a Father who has often worked multiple jobs and managed to spend quality time with his wife and children. He never complained and has always maintained a great attitude and sense of humor. This has given me a basic mentality that when I am tired during workouts, how can I complain? Feeling sorry for myself would only bring me shame. This is why I can guarantee that I will be the hardest working player on the team. If I don't think I did my very best during a workout or practice, I would believe that it was a wasted opportunity to improve myself. Also I will never be late without cause. I live by the Lombardi clock: if you are not 5 minutes early, then you are late. * My ethics on the field in general are affected by my faith in Jesus Christ. I believe it is His will for me to play this game. Playing hard with honor and integrity and care for my teammates will honor Him and in turn He will honor His promises to me. It is He that helps me play with all my strength on every down. As it says in the Bible, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." * Another quality that I can offer is my versatility. Throughout my career of playing football I have played every single position. This was because I played wherever the coaches needed me. I did this with the conviction that I was doing what was best for the team. The best example of this was when I was the starting quarterback on my freshmen team but we had a need at receiver, my secondary position. I took on the role and ended up leading the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns. This also enabled me to play cornerback and I have played this as well as receiver ever since then. I can guarantee that I will never complain if the coach wants me to change positions if it will make the team better. My commitment to the team will always overrule my personal preferences. * Having played every position that the game can offer I have absorbed as much information possible to develop the highest football IQ possible for me. This has helped me to know what every one is doing on the field during offensive, defensive, and special team plays. Like my coach always tells my team, "This game is played from the neck up." This basically means in order to be a good football player you must have a solid grasp of what is going on around you on the field. Athleticism is part of being an outstanding player but being a smart football player is much more important. * Another important quality I possess is my will to be a leader. I have been named as a team captain this year by my coach and have done my best to fulfill that role. I make sure I am at every workout session possible so that I may get stronger, better, and push my teammates to do the same. I am vocal when I have to be. Any time a teammate is being lazy or isn't focused I make sure I will let him know that he is not performing to his potential. However, I try to avoid saying too much. * In terms of a location of a college, I would like to attend a university that would be affordable for my parents to pay for my way back home for the holidays as well as transporting themselves to see my games. The type of school I would like to attend would have to offer my major as well as have a solid reputation for that specific major. I have narrowed down my major choice between English and History. I would like to teach either of these topics later in my life as well as coach football. That is why I have interned as a coach for the youth football league in my town. * As hard working as my parents are, they have only been able to help my three other siblings with small amounts of money to get them through college. So following in their footsteps I have been working hard to keep up good grades and become the best athlete I can be to pay for college. Without any sort of financial aid or grant it would be very difficult for me to continue my education at the collegiate level. * I have made two main realistic goals for my continuation of football at the collegiate level. One is to become a starter for the team as soon as possible. The second is to go as far as I can with football, no matter what level of competition. If I achieve this I know I have done my best and did not waste opportunities to be the best man and football player possible. * Thank you again for taking time to look at my scouting report.
