Personal Statement
“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it’s much more serious than that,” said hall of fame football coach Bill Shankly. In my 16 plus years of life, there has been only one constant that I use as a metric to define my identity and self-worth, the sport of football. As the quote above states, football can be classified as a sport but means much more to me than the label suggests.
My tackle football career began in Pop Warner football at the age of 7 where I first set my eyes on playing football in college at any capacity. Since then I have spent countless hours studying the game on television and through film to strengthen my understanding of the sport. This enables me to read defenses, notice tendencies, and instruct teammates.
My greatest accomplisment and honor, is the ability to say I have been voted captain every year I have played football. From peewee to varsity coaches and teammates alike quickly recognized my leadership capabilities and hard-working nature. My will to be the best version of myself and desire to help othes to do the same allows teams I have played for to grow exponentially. The greatest example I can offer is presented by my high school's football history. I joined team with a 4-34 record over the last 4 seasons and lead my brothers to a 5-5 season. There are many other factors that created this drastic result but I believe that I played a crucial role.
I head into the coming 2022 season looking to make the schools first playoff appearance in over a decade. I will dedicate every ounce of myself to this team to create the best result. I am willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that this year will not be the last time I have the honor to walk off a gridiron.
