My name is Eric "Reece" McManus and I've been playing football since I was 8 years old and just started playing Quarterback my Junior year of high school. I am also a Long Snapper and have been doing that since my Sophomore year and have gotten very good at it. I would definitely like to play Quarterback more than Long Snapper in college but being able to play either one at the next level would be a blessing and I would work my butt off to be able to do so. As a quarterback I believe I have a great build as a tall and built 6'6" and I also have the brain to be able to be another great analyzing quarterback (similar to Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, although I can only dream of being as good as those two greats). I have pretty good arm strength but lack the speed required of a good Quarterback in college nowadays (though Tom Brady wasn't fast) and I'll be doing a lot of training from this point forward to improve on both my strengths and my weaknesses. I haven't been to many camps or played many snaps at Quarterback since I am new to the position but I LOVE the game of football and I will be going into a lot of camps during the spring of my junior year (film to come!).
I believe I am a good candidate for your team because I am a humble player who is always studying the game and is always willing and eager to be taught new things about the game. I always motivate and cheer on my teammates but I am not afraid to call them out when they aren't being a good teammate, whether that means they aren't participating or they're acting like they're bigger than anyone or everyone else. I am always my biggest critic and that causes me to watch game film or practice film and constantly critique myself to make myself the best I can be. Finally, my biggest quality that makes me a good candidate for your team is my work ethic. I have a work ethic unparalleled by anyone I have met so far as I am constantly at the gym, at the football field, or studying film. I know the kind of hard work, dedication, and discipline it takes to play at the next level and I accept that and am willing to do whatever it takes to make my dream of playing at the next level possible.
I think I am very different from other recruits because I haven't always been a star, or even a starter, so I know what it means and what it takes to have to work for the starting spot and trust of coaches and teammates. I am a Boy Scout, almost an Eagle Scout, so I know what it means to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. I believe that in being in Boy Scouts, it says a lot for the character I have and about my capabilities as a leader and being an overall good person. I don't have enough film yet to prove that my athletic ability is better and has more potential than other recruits but I will soon. When it comes to academics, I am the son of a principal who also earned her doctorate so that has to say something about how strict academics are in my household. On the updated Grade Point Average scale we have in our high school, I have a 4.5 out of 5.0 (at the end of my sophomore year). I am currently number 1 in my class and am constantly working to separate myself from the rest of my class. I am taking college classes through my local community college to make room for football and it's requirements of a student in college so I can be a successful student-athlete in college as well as in high school.
Overall, I think I am a great candidate for your team with my character, academics, athletics, athletic potential, and work ethic. I promise if you just give me a chance, whether that's inviting me for a visit or to a camp, I will do my absolute best to prove to you why I deserve to play at the next level.
