Finlay Mitchell '24 Recruiting Profile

I am a 6’, 210lb Junior and I am starting middle linebacker on our Varsity team. I was born in Ireland and moved to the US in 2017. I have played rugby since I was 8 but I didn’t have my first experience with American football until I moved here at the beginning of 6th Grade  - and I loved everything about it. Football is like “chess on steroids” - I love to hit and enjoy the physicality, but I also like that football is a game of strategy and requires intelligence as well as athleticism. Football has allowed me to grow both as an athlete and as a person. 

I enjoy learning, I currently have a 4.37 GPA and am a two time varsity letterman for Academic Achievement as well as a varsity letterman in Football. Alongside football, I am a Rugby All-American at U18 level. I have also played Elite level rugby for the USA  at U14 and U16 - and I believe the transferable skills from one sport to the other are really advantageous to my game and position.

I have consistently demonstrated strong leadership skills and am told that I am highly coachable. Feedback from my coaches has always been that they can rely on me to do my job, to show up and to deliver. They have said that they value my work ethic, commitment and dedication in everything that I do. I intend to continue that into my college career (both in academics and in athletics) and my hope is that college coaches will also recognize these qualities, and give me an opportunity use them to make a significant contribution to the success of my future team.
