Personal Statement
As a sophomore, I earned the starting Varsity Punter position on my High School team. Every day since the end of last season, I have worked hard to improve. The season ended in November, I was in the weight room in December, and on a field (in the snow) in January, working to increase my distance, hang time, and accuracy.
When I step on to a field, I have to overcome more than most players. I was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune illness when I was young, called PANDAS. While my parents have worked hard to help find me a cure, I am still battling it everyday. While the illness doesn't define me, it has made me more resilient, more empathic, and an all around better person. For example, at the age of 14, I sold my playstation and set out on the streets of Cleveland to give back to the homeless. I would not allow my parents to contribute to my cause, as I felt it wouldn't mean the same if they gave me the money to do it. I organize days several times throughout each season to donate food, blankets, water bottles, hats/scarves - whatever seems to be a need during a season. For the past three years, each time I set out, I take different kids with me to be impacted through giving back. I believe that I lead with purpose.
I am looking for a school that will be a good fit for me both athletically and academically. I believe that I have the talent to compete for a college team, but also the stand-up character, integrity, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact in your program. As a hard-working, driven, well-liked player, I feel that I have what it takes to be an asset to your team!
Thanks for your time!
