Personal Statement
My name is Chris Mengis and I am a senior at Oregon State University. The past 4 years I’ve been a part of the Oregon State program and had to deal with a couple of coaching changes which I think were somewhat beneficial for me as a person and a player. Adjusting to different coaches and coaching styles is something I think was positive for me as a player and person. I earned playing time as a redshirt sophomore, but was out this past season which was my redshirt junior year with an injury to my foot. Dealing with that injury taught me a lot about myself but made me a lot more mentally tough not being able to be out on the field and practicing like normal.
The past four years at Oregon State we have not won many games, but even with that being the case I still was able to learn a lot as I got older and more mature. I learned a lot about commitment, sacrifice, adversity, and being a good teammate. We dealt with a lot of tough times throughout my career here as a team, but I believe they also contributed to my mental toughness and things of that sort. I’m looking for a program that will be a good fit for me academically and athletically. I would like to get my masters too. I know I have what it takes to compete somewhere and just am looking for an opportunity.
