Two things that I’ve learned over the years is perseverance and learn from my failures. I’ve learned perseverance through my school work. I attend The School of Science and Engineering at Townview Magnet Center. The curriculum at my school is accelerated, and as a freshman I took Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus. As a freshman I had to learn perseverance and keep going as my classes got harder, and there was a lot of homework and projects to manage. I never gave up and this mindset transferred to sports. I learned to keep persevering through every play, to keep going even when I’m tired, for the betterment of my team. This helps me in the future as I work to achieve my goal of becoming an Aerospace Engineer. I know that I’ll have to work hard towards achieving it.
I’ve learned that failure can teach valuable lessons. Failure is a part of life and every failure has a teaching point. You can learn what you did wrong and how to improve for the future. Failure isn’t something that should bring you down, it’s something that you learn from. It helps me to perfect the holes in my game, and to learn more about my position as I study my craft. . During a game, I was blocking and saw the quarterback leave the pocket and I let my guy go. Following that, the quarterback got sacked for a loss by my guy. I learned from this that I have to hold my guy until the whistle is blown. If I stop any time before that then I’ve allowed the chance for my guy to make a play on the ball.
These two ideas help me to become a better football player and student. My school doesn’t have sports which is why I play at Cedar Hill High School. But, even through the tough situation of going back and forth between the schools I never lose my focus of becoming better. Whether its school or sports I use the same ideals to help me excel in both.
