Personal Statement
August 21, 2009
To My Prospective Coaches,
My name is Hunter Labrada and I am an Honors student at Northland Christian High School in Houston, Texas. I am currently a junior and will graduate in May of 2010. I am a member of the Northland Cougar varsity football team, where I play defensive back and running back. I am also the team captain, and have achieved All-State, Honorable Mention, and All-District, First Team honors. I hold a 4.74 GPA and have scored an 1890 on my SAT and 28 on my ACT.
As a coach, I know that you will have a lot of other backs to choose from, but there are some things that I would like for you to know about me. First, that if I am given the opportunity to play for you, I will work harder than anyone else to help my team win games. I have a work ethic that is second to none. Please see what my high school football coach, Nathan Sanford, says about me below.
Secondly, I am very strong and fast, and I am not done growing, as I am just 17. If there is one thing I can do, it's accelerate quickly out of the backfield, make the play, and when I hit defenders, move the pile. On the defensive side, I can make the stop. I am currently 5'9" tall, at a bodyweight of 205lbs. I am running the 40yd dash in 4.52s; the 20yd shuttle in 4.27s; and I have a 38" vertical jump. I can also bench press 325lbs. and squat 500lbs, which makes me the strongest player on my high school team.
Last, but not certainly not least, I have a burning desire to excel as a person. My family is first generation Cuban and I have been taught since I was little that if I set my goals high and pushed myself hard, I could accomplish anything. I want to stand on my father's shoulders and make my family proud by going farther than any of us have.
Playing football at a university with high academic standards would enable me to do that. I am open to offers from different types of schools. I am interested in pursuing a career in business and plan to achieve my MBA after I receive my undergraduate degree.
Thank you very much for considering me.
I hope to hear from you soon!
Best Regards..........................................................

Words from Northland Christian Coach Nathan Sanford:
"Hunter Labrada is the kind of athlete and team member every coach would love to have -- dedicated, intense, self-motivated, team-first, and incredibly hard-working. If I were to have to build a team from scratch, Hunter Labrada is the kind of player I would take first. He is a thermostat, not a thermometer; he sets the tone on the practice field and in the weight room. Having him on the field is like having another coach. He combines natural ability with a rare work ethic, which helps to make him an elite athlete. It's not often you find a player with all of these attributes, and that's what sets Hunter Labrada apart."
