My name is Marlon Bryant Jr. and I’m a graduating senior for the class of 2019. I have experienced my share of hardships, trials and tribulations but I use those as stepping stones while I work to reach my goals and aspirations. As a freshman in high school, I struggled with learning due to domestic violence in my home. Over time I grew depressed, felt abandoned, and my self-confidence decreased in education. I knew at that time school was my only way out. School became my safe-haven and although I struggled, I was determined to beat the odds and overcome my circumstances. Now having that support system allows me to reach my full potential and drive me to become more ambitious about my education. As a student, my educational philosophy is now “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard" which was inspired by Tim Notke.
Earlier in the school year, while I was attending Sterling High School my guardian decided that she no longer wanted to support me and put me on a greyhound bus to Atlanta, Georgia. When this happen, my world stopped. I could only think about the bond of my team I was leaning, my friendships I developed over the time and of course the excitement I had for my final year of football. I thought it was all over for me. I was confused and hurt but I knew God had other plans for me. My uncle Tyson and big brother Jay stepped in and got be back to Houston and I decided to live with my brother Jay. Although, I’m no longer with my classmates and coaches i’m trying to make the best of my senior year and go out with a blast at my new school, Northbrook High School. A new school, new coaches, new friends and new home in a matter of weeks is very overwhelming but I’m beyond grateful that I have people in my life that loves me and would support me in every decision I make. I decided to not let anyone take my thunder and work hard each and every day until I reach my maximum potential.
