My name is Dylan Whitman. I attend Orangefield High School near Orange Texas. I have been playing football since I was 5 years old playing flag and since 7 playing tackle. I was a starter both ways 7th -9th grade, youth all-American 3 times in 7th and 8th grade and played on a select travel team. When I was in 7th grade, I was 5’10, 195 pounds. As of now, I am 6’ 225 pounds. Due to that, I have been labeled as an interior lineman. I have trimmed down quite a bit and gotten much faster. I currently run a 4.9 40 but my split times are much faster than that shows. I have always been told that I have ‘football speed’ and worked with Buford Jordan (former New Orleans Saints running back) on my speed and agility. I will play any position and believe I would be a very dominant defensive end.
Our team runs a slot T. It is a 4A school and I made varsity as a sophomore in a heavy junior and senior filled team. I played some but not a lot. This year as a junior, I cannot explain why but I still had limited game snaps. I was told before the beginning of the season that I would be the backup to Center, Strong Guard, and Strong Tackle. I had to learn all 3 positions, which in a slot T was a challenge, but I did it and ended up playing all positions mentioned and in one game I played both guard and tackle. This is in addition to playing defensive tackle in which defense is my passion. I tried to make the best of every rep that I was on the field. I am currently putting a film together that shows that even in my limited reps, I got the job done. At one point in our playoff game this year, I made 3 tackles in a row.
I am also a power lifter. As a sophomore, I placed in regionals and was a combined 50 pounds from going to state in the 220 pound class. As a sophomore, I squatted 520, benched 300, and dead lifted 495. My goals this year are much higher.
I want to play football after high school. It has been a goal of mine since very young. I have, and continue to put in the work to fulfill my goals and dreams. I only hope someone will give me the opportunity to show what I can do on the field.
