“Sports don't build character, they reveal it”. - Heywood Broun
My whole life I've had a ball in my hand. I am a multi-sport athlete, but football has a special place in my heart. My grandfather was a high school football coach with a stellar record, and even though I never met him, my Dad and I share his love for the game. I love the game because it shows respect for all kinds of people. No matter where you are from, your background makes no difference when you're on the field. Everyone has to come together as one, playing their best for one another.
I was born in Uganda where my parents were full time missionaries. I grew up in a God centered home with four older sisters and two loving parents who have always pushed me to reach my full potential whether in school, athletics, or faith. I have experienced different cultures in developing countries and I feel blessed and forever thankful for this and for the opportunities coming my way.
My high school experience has been tough juggling academics, a job, and athletics, but I have learned to embrace it, maintain discipline, and manage my time. As an athlete, I am comfortable with pressure, and have awareness of time and space on the field. I enjoy good relationships with my coaches as much as my teammates.
Spring of 2023, I realized I could do anything I put my mind to when I was the leading scorer on the varsity lacrosse team, and offensive MVP in the state title game as a sophomore. In the Fall, I learned to serve my team as backup QB behind a senior, and played Slot Back. Blocking and catching passes helped me understand the game even better, so much so I ended up playing Tight End in the third round playoff game when the starter went down.
I enjoy serving people. In the Summers, my Dad and I take some of my teammates and friends to Mexico right after school gets out, for a week, to work for Yucatan Peninsula Mission (ypmusa.org). Construction days are long and hard, and on our off-days we play football and basketball with kids in a nearby town. The one project we did last year that really left a big impact on all of us was building a roof on one family’s house. Seeing those people so happy was like seeing my teammates come together to execute a play successfully. That kind of happiness motivates me.
