My name is Tyler Brode. I am in my junior year at Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas. I am a unique student because 1.) I am a high academic achiever 2.) I excel at several different sports and 3.) I am involved in other extra-curricular activities.
In middle school, I attended Krueger School of Applied Technologies (KSAT) magnet program for rocketry, robotics, and engineering. During middle school, I maintained a GPA of 4.0. In the eighth grade, I was accepted into the Student Launch Initiative (SLI) program at KSAT. We were the only middle school to compete in this program. This program consisted of many high schools and colleges. Some of the colleges that participated in the program were Stanford, The Naval Academy, Vanderbilt, Alabama, and Oklahoma. Our task was to build a rocket with a scientific payload and launch it a mile high in order to collect data. Once our rocket was complete we were able to launch it at Huntsville, Alabama in front of NASA. During the awards ceremony, we won three awards. These awards included best rocket design, best rocket presentation, and team spirit. We tied with Vanderbilt for the most awards awarded in the nation.
In middle school, I was starting Quarterback Back for both 7th and 8th-grade football teams. I participated in club football and track. I was the power forward for Krueger’s basketball team. In addition, I ran distance for Krueger’s track team. I placed in the top five in our district for the 1600m and 800m runs in both 7th and 8th grade. This summer I am participating in AAU track with the San Antonio Heat. My 4x800 relay team qualified for the Junior Olympics in August in Humble, Texas. My club football team, SA Hawks, made it to the championship back to back years and won the fall 2015 Texas Select championship.
In addition to academics and sports, I also participate in many extra-curricular activities. I achieved my 3rd-degree black belt in Tai Kwon Do by the age of 11. I am working towards my eagle scout. I love to play the Cello.
I was on the varsity football team as a Junior. We made it to the second round of the state championship playoffs. I am also a wrestler. I won my weight class as a freshman, I went to regionals as a sophomore, as well as being on the varsity wrestling team. My goal is to wrestle at state as a junior. I am a starting fullback for the varsity football team at Reagan High School.
Ultimately, based on my academic achievement, athletic endeavors, and extra-curricular activities I am not only a student-athlete I am a well rounded high school student.
