Personal Statement

Lach Michael Labanna I'm a 17 and a senior at Smithson Valley High School. I live with my mother Renee, father Jason, and younger sister Emili. My older sister attends and cheers at Tamucc. My family means the world to me for they have been there every step of the way. One of the most outstanding things about me is my dedication to the task that needs to be completed. At Smithson Valley we have played five games this season .. my current stats over 1000 yards and 19 touchdowns. I have one 85yd touchdown run and I am averaging 8 yards per carry this season. I have also had sometime at quarter back and completed 6 of 7 passes. I am going above and beyond to make sure that guy on the other side of the ball isn't better than me. I make sure that my teammates also do the same and are as prepared mentally and physically. For example ,giving them a call to see if the want to go to the gym or re-watching the game film to find minor errors and make the adjustments. Studying the opponent is key and you should always be prepared. The other two keys are being an unselfish player and leading by your actions on and off the playing field. Teams win not individuals . I am 5'9' and weigh 220 pounds. Last season I weighed 165 pounds. I made a decision that I was going to weigh 195 when next season started. I began eating 6500 calories a day. I knew to play at the next level I had to take my game to the next level and that inlcuded changing my nutrition. My 40 yard dash time is a4.5 My vertical jump is 31", squat 630 pounds, bench press 410, power clean is 275, incline press is 275, and leg press is over 1200 pounds. I will put the work in to play at the next level and understand that off season is where athletes gain ground. I recently finished number 1 in our schools power rating which includes all of this plus my 400 time which is 57 seconds. It is calculated into a formula by our speed, strength, and conditioning coach, Coach Quisenberry. I also, have the number one overall power ranking record for the school . I recently just broke the all time record. My defensive coaches say that there are not too many others guys they have seen that can make a defense fall apart and open up the passing game because of them being so worried about the run game. Coach Bowman recently told me that I have the best side to side movement he has seen. He said my ability to make one cut and get up field is tremendous. I have the ability to find the cut back lane cant be taught. I have that ability to read the defense because I lined up at QB for so many years. Also, this year I will take some snaps and execute the wildcat as well. I was asked to learn the entire offense from 3 positions and have done so successfully. This only keeps contributing to the level of my game. Academically I have been Academic All District in every sport I have played. I have a 3.62 GPA and have made honor roll my entire life. I achieved All District/All County First Team running back 2010-2011 and Academic all state 2010-2011. The one thing my dad and mom always said to me was "any great athlete can take a hit the wrong way and never recover well enough to establish that same dominance on the field so make sure your doing well in the classroom". That is your responsibility to your team, coaches, yourself and your family. Also playing at Smithson Valley for one of Texas's best high school coaching staffs they are repeatedly checking grades once a week. The most important thing to them is bringing a group of individual athletes together as a team and watching that same group turn into men as the graduate and move on to the next big steps in their lives. For me I hope it will be attend a university and find a way to get on the field in their football program. I also want to pursue a degree in civil engineering.
