I have been playing football since I was six years old. Ever since then it has been my favorite thing to do. When I am on the field it feels like I don't have to worry about anything else and I can just play the sport that I love. I also have a tendency to want to compete in everything I do. Whether it is a game on Friday night, or just playing a board game with my family, I always want to win. I enjoy playing along side all of my teammates and creating a bond with them that is similar to a brotherhood. I have learned a lot from my teammates, they keep me accountable and push me to go that extra mile. They remind me that I'm not just playing for myself but for my team, and for my school.
This past season I earned all-conference honorable mention. Being my second year as a varsity starter I was expected to do so, and the goal is to do even better my senior season. Next year I will be awarded as captain and will be expected to lead a lot of younger players, being one of only three returning defensive starters. I have played in multiple different positions on the field. Mainly playing deep safety, also playing a lot in a rolled down position, and even playing inside the box. I have good ball skills. I can tackle any ball carrier, even ones that are larger than I am. Playing against mostly running teams, I have a lot of experience with tackling and avoiding blocks. I don't have many interceptions due to the lack of passing that I compete against, but when the opportunity comes I can execute. I recently joined the track in order to improve my speed for the upcoming football season. The track season will also help to increase my endurance, as I am expected to play on both sides of the ball and return both punts and kicks. My goal this year is to help lead my team to our first playoff appearance in almost 20 years and to help change the narrative about our football program.
While in college I hope to create a great bond with the new teammates and coaches that I meet. I am interested in the sports medicine field to become a strength coach or a sports trainer. I may also go into teaching and become a football coach at the high school or even college level. I wish that by becoming a collegiate athlete, I can become a role model to my teammates and those around me who look up to me as well as making both my family and coaches proud.
