To My New College Coach,
My name is Evan Herbig. I am a 2023 starting varsity quarterback from Mukwonago WI, competing in the WIAA Division 1 Classic 8 Conference for Mukwonago High School. This year (2021) was an amazing season. Our team went 11-2 overall, tying for the Conference Championship and making it to the Wisconsin state semifinals coming up just short to get to state. I was nominated twice for Wisconsin player of the week by WI Prep Redzone and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sports. I broke three school records including the highest completion percentage in a season and in a career along with most passes completed in a season. We had some unforgettable games this year including our level 2 playoff win where we drove the field in 90 seconds, scoring a touchdown pass with 3.8 seconds left, and then completing a two-point conversion pass to win the game.
In addition to playing football, I run track and have been a wrestler for the past 10 years. Over that timeframe, I was a 4-time state qualifier also competing at the national level. Mukwonago’s Wrestling program has been incredibly successful winning 10 straight Conference Titles, back-to-back Division 1 State Runner Up Team Titles and in 2019 was ranked top 50 in the Nation.
My wrestling background has been a huge asset to my success in playing football. Just the pure physical contact nature of the sport combined with the constant attention to body positioning and agility has benefited me in improving how I work through progressions and footwork. As I am used to aggressive physical contact, I do not shy away from stepping up in the pocket and enjoy working through pressure.
I started playing football in the first grade and was immediately hooked. Although I have always enjoyed being a multi-sport athlete, my first love is and always has been football. The life lessons that it has taught me have been invaluable. Outside of the hard work that I do daily for my High School program, I also train year-round for football with Coach Matt Trickey as part of the Trickey Quarterback Technique Program. I also spend additional time outside of school strengthening my speed and agility at NX Level Training. I am fully committed to preparing for the next chapter in my life to fulfill my dream of playing football at the highest collegiate level.
Sports has taught me how to deal with those things that I can and cannot control and what it really means to be a good leader and a good follower. I cannot wait to continue this and find a college where I can build on what I have learned already both academically and athletically.
See you soon,
Evan
