My name is Ian Ferguson and I am a Grade 12 student at Terry Fox Secondary School. I am a committed, multi-athlete student and I also excel in the areas of Art and Music. I compete and train at the highest levels in both basketball and soccer. I have played club and school basketball since Grade 5. I have a wing span of 6'9" and a standing reach of 8'8". I also played competitive soccer in both the Gold and Silver Divisions. Since Grade 9, I have maintained an average of 90% and an honour roll standing.
In May 2014, I had an accident that resulted in a high ankle fracture which required surgery. The injury was serious that I was not allowed to participate in competitive sports (both basketball and soccer) for almost 6 months. During the injury, I continued to stay in shape by lifting weights. As I regained my strength and mobility, I worked hard to be back to where I was before the accident. As a result of the accident, I was not able to try-out for the school's senior team this year. It was a tough and devastating school year for me in that I was not able to be there to help the team and play the sport I love. Instead of giving up, I attended the Winter basketball session; which I believe will prepare me for 2015 Spring /Summer Team Session.
Being an athlete and to be a part of some of the best teams in basketball and soccer, I have had the opportunity to grow as a person, a leader, and an athlete. Each team has provided me with invaluable experiences to learn about leadership, commitment, teamwork, the value of hard work, the importance of good relationships, as well as open and sincere communication. Such lessons have inspired me and laid a foundation for who I am outside of the school and in my personal life.
