Hi, my name is Eddie Weber-Stover. I am 15 years old and I am a sophomore at Berkeley High School in California. I have played basketball since I was 7 years old and have always wanted to play in college. When reflecting on my life I realize that basketball has impacted me positively in many ways. I have met my closest friends through basketball and I'm sure our bond has been strengthened through playing on a team together. I have learned to cooperate, manage conflict, and strive for a common goal. I have learned how to listen and absorb information from teammates, coaches, and everyone around me. But most importantly I learned the value of hard work and not being afraid of failure. Persistence is key not just in basketball but in life. When you have persistence and determination you can achieve your goals. Like Kobe said, “If I fail today, I'm going to learn something from that failure. I'm going to try again." At some point, I realized that if I am to achieve my goals, I must work extremely hard and that is what I have been doing since I got to High School. That includes finding time daily to fit in extra workouts and skills-building beyond what my high school provides. These life lessons will help me succeed in college both academically and athletically. My dream is to play professional basketball. In addition to playing professionally, I would like to share my love of basketball with others through sports psychology or coaching. I have worked with local youth at a basketball camp run at my High School and volunteered to help my AAU coach with running outdoor practices for children during the pandemic. Basketball is my passion and I’m dedicated to playing at the next level.
