I am Trevor Vertiz and I am a part of the 2021 class at Clovis East High School located in Clovis, CA. I am currently a 2 sport athlete in basketball and baseball. During my Freshman year, I also played quarterback and defensive end for Clovis East. In basketball, I am versatile player with the ability to play all spots, with most of my time rotating at the 2, 3, 4, and 5 positions. In baseball I'm the starting first baseman and relief pitcher for our Varsity team. I would have liked to continue both sports, but with the change of season due to COVID-19 and CIF regulations, I have decided to follow my dreams of playing basketball in college, and to focus on my increasing my basketball abilities physically and mentally .
During this past year, I progressed my basketball game by participating in multiple camps and one-on-one training sessions on a weekly basis, while also continuing to do extra work before, during and after school by myself, teammates and coaches. I am working to progress my game while also working on my strength and conditioning. During the COVID-19 shutdown, I have continued to work hard with at home workouts, watching old game films, and talking to coaches on how to progress and become more knowledgeable of the game. Utilizing weights at home, and continually shooting, has allowed me to get stronger. I continually to look to grow.
I not only work hard on the court, but I also work hard in school. My current unweighted GPA of 3.87 and weighted GPA of 3.95, which includes multiple honors classes, AP and college course credits. My parents require that family comes first, followed by faith, school and then sports. I work hard and I am a team leader. I lead by example, and work to be the best player and teammate on and off the field. I am very coachable and I am a quick learner. My coaches have recognized this trait with me, as I earned the Character Counts Award, which is the highest award for any student athlete during my baseball season in my 7th grade school year. Earned the Mr. Timberwolf Award, for being a positive role model on and off the field for baseball, and the Offensive MVP for football. Both of these awards were during my 8th grade school year.
During college I look to major in Sports Management, and hope to work towards a degree that allows me to work as an Athletic Director or Coach, after I retire from basketball. I have already spoken numerous Athletic Directors and expressed my interest in going into this field and what steps I would need to take. All have offered to assist me when I am ready.
In addition to school and sports, I work part-time at local golf course, Belmont Country Club, as a golf member assistant.
I look forward to speaking with your program and I am open to having discussions about my background and what I can bring to your program starting in 2021.
Kind regards,
Trevor Vertiz
