Personal Statement
My name is Michael Eldrick Perez, I was born in London and I am full Filipino. My family is who makes up who I am. My father played Pro in the Philippines and my mom pursued a career in America to be able to give my brother and I a better life, and I could not ask for anything more. Each day I look up to them as my inspiration to work harder both in school and on the court since they dedicated their lives so that we could have better and I just want to be able to return the favor to them. I became interested in the sport of basketball at the young age of 4 when I saw my dad playing and wanted to follow in his footsteps, ever since then I’ve wanted to play basketball at the next level no matter where it was.
I have learned so many things about myself as a person through the sport God has gifted me. Through basketball I have gained a wider perspective on life seeing traits like teamwork, work ethic, grit, confidence, and knowledge not just of the game but in life. My academic goals for high school are to maintain a 3.8 or higher and mentally challenge myself and my limits. For college, I want to pursue business/Finance and try to help my family as soon as possible. Ever since a young age, I wasn’t always the best player or the first pick, I was always second in everything and that taught me to never compare myself to anyone else since it lowers my confidence in my capabilities and to always be grateful I have been given, since God has put me in certain scenarios since he knows I can handle it and flourish from them. Thank you for taking the time to read this, May God bless you and have a wonderful rest of your day !
